For a wine region producing only 2.2% of NZ total harvest, Nelson continues to be recognised for its excellence in winemaking, with outstanding results in Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Aromatics and now Syrah and Sparkling. #nelsonshines
Following three days of judging over 1,300 wines, the gold medals have been awarded in this year’s Air New Zealand Wine Awards, with Nelson producers Seifried Estate and Falcon Ridge Estate earning a gold medal each for Aotea by the Seifried Family Méthode Traditionnelle Nelson NV and Falcon Ridge Estate Syrah Nelson 2016 respectively.
Four gold medals at the 2017 New Zealand International Wine Show for Nelson, once again across different varieties. The New Zealand International Wine Show is the largest wine competition held in New Zealand, with over 2,000 entries received. The judging took place from 18th through 20th September, with medal results announced today.
Judged at the recent 2017 Bragato Wine Awards as the Champion Pinot Noir, we're very proud of this Ruby Bay Pinot Noir 2016. The volume of entries for this category was such that all of the judging panels spent an entire morning looking exclusively at Pinot Noir; so the competition for this particular award was fierce.

Congratulations to Rimu Grove for taking out the annual Colin Harrison Memorial Trophy for their Rimu Grove Chardonnay 2016. Not only was it the Judges favourite wine, but it was also voted People's Choice at a blind tasting at the Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce Aspire event in July.

Waimea Estate, one of the regions largest wine producers has been sold to New Zealand financial services company Booster which is a KiwiSaver fund provider and will now be in partnership with the Awatere River Wine Company in Marlborough.
Congratulations to Falcon Ridge Estate for their 2015 Syrah which won a Gold Medal at the 2017 Global Syrah Masters in London.

Stock described both the 2014 and 2015 Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noirs as worthy of collecting and maturing; capable of attaining the kind of sweet decay that you find in the best older Burgundy wines with age.
Whilst it's early days for this new varietal in New Zealand, three local Nelson producers are already earning accolades.
