A convincing win for Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay 2013, described by the Judges as one of the Word's finest Chardonnay's, proving triumphant over a South African Chardonnay even when matched with a local speciality, carpaccio of springbok, in the Tri Nations Challenge held in Cape Town.

The very first vintage from new Spring Grove vineyard, Falcon Ridge Estate, has impressed New Zealand wine judges. Falcon Ridge's 2015 sauvignon blanc was recently awarded a silver medal at the New Zealand International Wine Show, a bronze at the Bragato Wine Awards, and a pure bronze at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards.

In November, Nelson Winegrowers hosted the Wine Writers of New Zealand group for a two-day visit to the region. Members attending share their thoughts.
The visit was a great opportunity for the Wine Writers to learn more about our wines and it was great to get their feedback "[Nelson] ...a small wine region of New Zealand that hides its light under a bushel. Let that light shine brightly!"
Not only did Nelson play host to the gala dinner for the largest premier wine competition in New Zealand, the Air New Zealand Wine Awards, it also took out three of the eighteen trophies awarded at the dinner.
We've won the rugby and now Aronui have taken out the trophy for Best New Zealand Wine at the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show, which is more than a forum for wines that fall outside the mainstream. The competition encourages cutting-edge judging procedures and provide a host of social and educational events that promote knowledge sharing and the ferment of ideas.
In its 34th year of competition, the Sydney International Wine Competitions' main aim is to offer consumers independent information to help in their choice of wines more likely to enhance the pleasures of the daily dining experience and, by so doing, to add enjoyment and contentment to their everyday lives. And it's great to know that Nelson Wines are considered amongst that choice of wines!
The Air New Zealand Wine Awards is the premier wine competition in New Zealand. This year, following 1,407 wines entered, judges awarded 84 gold medals to wines from around the country with four gold medals awarded to Nelson wines.

The International Aromatic Wine Competition, now in its thirteenth year, focuses on aromatic wines including Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Viognier and other wine varieties including Muscat, Verdeldo, Arneis, Red, Rose and Sauvignon Gris, made in an aromatic style from any internationally recognised region. The purpose of the competition is to highlight to consumers the best aromatic wine varieties available in the New Zealand market for the wine drinker.

This month he awarded 100 points to Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay 2014 saying “This is as good as some of the best white Burgundy I’ve tasted. I love the wine’s impressive power. I love the way it delivers an array of citrus, chalky mineral, brioche and spicy oak flavours with consummate subtlety.”
The New Zealand International Wine Show is the largest wine competition held in New Zealand. Entry is open for wines from any country and made from any variety. This year 2103 entries were received from 10 countries resulting in 221 Gold, 386 Silver and 910 Bronze Medals being awarded. The judging took place from 7th through 9th September, and was chaired by Bob Campbell MW with assistant Chief Judges Larry McKenna, John Hancock and Kym Milne MW.

There’s a revolution fermenting in the Moutere Hills and Waimea Plains with the return of one of Nelson’s wine sons to the region. Michael Glover has left a radical career in Australia to don the black beret of Mahana, Che Guevara-style, and take up a wine-growing crusade that could create more converts to the exciting wines made in this region.
The Bragato Wine Awards, held each year as part of the New Zealand Winegrowers Romeo Bragato National Conference, are awarded to the grower for viticultural excellence. The competition recognises that growing excellent grapes is the foundation of making wines of true quality. The Trophies were presented at the Bragato Dinner in Hawke’s Bay on 27 August.

Three new vintage Sauvignon Blanc’s and a Late Harvest Riesling from New Zealand’s Seifried Estate, have earned Gold Medals at this year’s Berliner Wein Trophy in Germany.
The results of the fifth Spiegelau International Wine Competition have been announced and three Nelson Wineries have been awarded golds across multiple varieties, continuing proof that Nelson wines are world class.
