Four gold medals at the 2017 New Zealand International Wine Show for Nelson, once again across different varieties. The New Zealand International Wine Show is the largest wine competition held in New Zealand, with over 2,000 entries received. The judging took place from 18th through 20th September, with medal results announced today.

Judged at the recent 2017 Bragato Wine Awards as the Champion Pinot Noir, we're very proud of this Ruby Bay Pinot Noir 2016. The volume of entries for this category was such that all of the judging panels spent an entire morning looking exclusively at Pinot Noir; so the competition for this particular award was fierce.
Congratulations to Rimu Grove for taking out the annual Colin Harrison Memorial Trophy for their Rimu Grove Chardonnay 2016. Not only was it the Judges favourite wine, but it was also voted People's Choice at a blind tasting at the Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce Aspire event in July.

Congratulations to Falcon Ridge Estate for their 2015 Syrah which won a Gold Medal at the 2017 Global Syrah Masters in London.

Another successful haul of medals at this years Air New Zealand Wine Awards, where 1,392 wines were entered. 6.5 percent of entries were awarded Gold Medals and 70% of all entries received awards.
Another stunning trophy cabinet haul, with two Champion Trophies collected by local producers at the Bragato Dinner in Marlborough last night.
Jonny Hiscox collected the Brother Cyprian Trophy Winner and Champion Pinot Gris for Aronui Pinot Gris Single Vineyard Nelson 2016 and newcomer Alan Eggers received the Alan Limmer Trophy Winner and Champion Syrah for Falcon Ridge Estate Syrah Nelson 2015.
2016 marks 40 years since the pioneering family-owned winemakers, Seifried Estate, first grape harvest. And with all three Seifried children, Heidi, Chris & Anna fully involved in the business, over 250 hectares of sustainably accredited Estate owned vineyards, and exports to over 20 countries around the globe, this 40th birthday year is proving to be a great one.

Their Brightwater Vineyards 2014 Lord Rutherford Pinot Noir has just been awarded a Gold Medal at the Royal Easter Wine Show judged in Auckland over the weekend.
The very first vintage from new Spring Grove vineyard, Falcon Ridge Estate, has impressed New Zealand wine judges. Falcon Ridge's 2015 sauvignon blanc was recently awarded a silver medal at the New Zealand International Wine Show, a bronze at the Bragato Wine Awards, and a pure bronze at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards.
Not only did Nelson play host to the gala dinner for the largest premier wine competition in New Zealand, the Air New Zealand Wine Awards, it also took out three of the eighteen trophies awarded at the dinner.
We've won the rugby and now Aronui have taken out the trophy for Best New Zealand Wine at the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show, which is more than a forum for wines that fall outside the mainstream. The Air New Zealand Wine Awards is the premier wine competition in New Zealand. This year, following 1,407 wines entered, judges awarded 84 gold medals to wines from around the country with four gold medals awarded to Nelson wines.
The International Aromatic Wine Competition, now in its thirteenth year, focuses on aromatic wines including Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Viognier and other wine varieties including Muscat, Verdeldo, Arneis, Red, Rose and Sauvignon Gris, made in an aromatic style from any internationally recognised region. The purpose of the competition is to highlight to consumers the best aromatic wine varieties available in the New Zealand market for the wine drinker.
The New Zealand International Wine Show is the largest wine competition held in New Zealand. Entry is open for wines from any country and made from any variety. This year 2103 entries were received from 10 countries resulting in 221 Gold, 386 Silver and 910 Bronze Medals being awarded. The judging took place from 7th through 9th September, and was chaired by Bob Campbell MW with assistant Chief Judges Larry McKenna, John Hancock and Kym Milne MW.

The Bragato Wine Awards, held each year as part of the New Zealand Winegrowers Romeo Bragato National Conference, are awarded to the grower for viticultural excellence. The competition recognises that growing excellent grapes is the foundation of making wines of true quality. The Trophies were presented at the Bragato Dinner in Hawke’s Bay on 27 August.

Three new vintage Sauvignon Blanc’s and a Late Harvest Riesling from New Zealand’s Seifried Estate, have earned Gold Medals at this year’s Berliner Wein Trophy in Germany.
The results of the fifth Spiegelau International Wine Competition have been announced and three Nelson Wineries have been awarded golds across multiple varieties, continuing proof that Nelson wines are world class.
