Seifried Estate has continued its successful year, being awarded a GOLD medal at Asia's most prestigious wine competition, the Japan Wine Challenge.
In its 11th year, this years 2008 competition attracted over 1,700 wines from 27 different wine countries. With just 67 gold and 223 silver medals being awarded, Seifried is proud to bring home one of each. A gold for the Seifried Winemakers Collection Sauvignon Blanc 2008 and a silver for the Seifried Sweet Agnes Riesling 2007 (already winner two gold medals in previous competitions).
Chairman to the competition, Mr Steven Spurrier (also Consultant Editor to Decanter Magazine) comments " have seen great improvements in the overall standard of wine entering Japan". The Japan WINE Challenge is the biggest and most significant international wine competition in Asia. Winning an award here is recognized through the wine world.
Although very much a team effort, where care from the vineyard through to the bottle has been paramount, the long dry summer of 2007-2008 has also played a big part in this wines success. Leading the winemaking team to this victory was Chris Seifried. "To be awarded gold for a grape variety often overlooked by fine wine buyers of Nelson wines is quite a feat. This reiterates what we have believed for a long time, that Nelson is one for the best places in the world for growing full flavoured, textured wines of world class standards."
