Nelson’s Casa del Vino is now the city’s first-ever fine wine shop and tasting bar. If you haven’t been to Casa, it’s in the heart of the Nelson CBD at 214 Hardy Street. Completely transformed last year, it will remind you of some of the most elegant wine bars and tasting rooms of Europe.

Owners Juliane and Glenn Cormier have taken a completely new approach to owning the shop since they purchased it last year.

“Glenn and I really enjoy wine and the experiences surrounding it, like chatting with customers about the bottle they had last night or travelling and tasting a new wine we’ve never heard of. Living in France and working in the wine industry in California really solidified my passion for not only tasting and enjoying wine, but learning more about it as well.”

One of the more exciting changes is making Casa available for private functions.

“We always knew we’d want to offer Casa as a private event venue, especially after we remodelled it. The ‘wine-cellar-chic’ décor is perfect for private events. We can set up a sit-down tasting or a relaxed stand-at-the-bar event. Groups of up to 30 can be accommodated comfortably.

“I hope Wine Nelson members will think of us when they are planning a function for themselves or visiting guests. We can take care of everything, including the menu with food and wine matching.”

Casa del Vino stocks wines for all budgets from throughout New Zealand, with a keen focus on Nelson wine, as well as wines from across the globe. Juliane holds Certified Wine Specialist (CSW) and Level 3 WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) certificates, globally recognised as the international standard in wine and spirit knowledge.
